IMesh Toolkit utilities

This package contains a number of small (and not so small ;-) programs
created as part of the IMesh Toolkit project, which was part of the
joint JISC/NSF Digital Libraries Programme.

The goal of the project was to devise the "glue" necessary for the
interoperability of disparate subject gateway systems such as the
Scout Portal Toolkit [1], the ROADS subject gateway software [2], and
various other home made systems based on standardised protocols such
as LDAP and Dublin Core metadata.

This has been accomplished by focussing on the Scout Portal Toolkit as
a common core technology, and devising tools (written in Perl [3]) to
interface it to other common systems and protocols - e.g. the IAFA
templates WHOIS++ centroids and Common Indexing Protocol used in the
ROADS software.

Please see the "doc" subdirectory for the documentation for the
individual tools.

Note that some editing of the programs themselves may be necessary in
order to customise them for a particular environment, e.g. to cope
with custom schemas and other local peculiarities.
