OAI normalization tools

In this component we will be exploring the normalization of metadata records used within the Open Archives Initiative (OAI) framework.

2 approaches are being investigated. The first involves simple string transformation on records using the capabilities of Perl Regular Expressions. The second uses an XML application, XSLT, as the technology to manipulate metadata records (which are encoded in XML). The strengths and weaknesses of the two approaches will be explored.
